Great style is ageless. But when your 40s bring sandwich-generation style stress, the last thing on your mind is picking the best jewelry that reflects your personality. But it doesn’t have to be this way. The right accessories, experts shared, enhance your outfit and confidence with minimal effort.
Here are the top five accessories every woman should have in her wardrobe:
Year-Round Sunglasses
They aren’t just for Jackie O.
Nothing screams mystery like a head-turning pair of sunglasses. Whether you prefer oversized shades or Top Gun-style aviators, take time to ensure they’re comfortable and fit your face shape. That might mean shopping in person or ordering a few online and returning those that aren’t “you.”
“Sunglasses are not just for sunny days — they’re a year-round essential,” says Kim Apodaca, executive stylist and founder of Global Style Academy and Recharge Your Style. “A great pair of sunglasses not only protects your eyes but also adds an instant aura of mystery and confidence. Plus, they’re an easy way to elevate your look on those days when you’re not feeling like putting much effort into your outfit.” She suggests wearing a pair of sunglasses when you’re feeling overwhelmed.
A Well-Made Statement Bag with a Twist
Just make sure it’s functional, too.
Your bag doesn’t have to be limited to the classic colors of black or beige. Instead, focus on quality and function.
“A well-made, structured handbag is essential for a polished look,” explains Apodaca. “The key here is quality over quantity — no need for too many bags, just one that makes a statement. Think leather, maybe with gold or silver hardware, for that added touch of luxury. Whether [it’s] a crossbody, tote or handle bag, make it yours and part of your look.”
The leather Times Tote from Minor History comes in black and beige, but also in a terrific red if you’re looking for a pop of wow for your outfit. There are also some lovely totes from Kattee and Montana West.
Bright Lipstick
With eye-catching lips, they’ll remember what you said.
